Orbitkey Key Organiser Pro Cosmic Range

There are some everyday helpers that you don't miss until you own them, but after acquiring them, you inevitably wonder how you ever managed without them. A vivid example of such a practical addition to daily life is a compact key Organiser.

Key Organiser Pro

Those who carry their keys loose in a pocket know the typical disadvantages from personal experience. The constant jingling with every step and the sharp edges pose a constant risk to delicate items. Especially when a smartphone, headphone case, or a compact camera is in the same compartment, without proper protection, it's only a matter of time before unsightly scratches appear on housings or displays.

With the Key Organiser Pro, this metallic clattering becomes a thing of the past, as all keys are firmly enclosed and fixed parallel to each other. Another practical advantage becomes apparent in daily handling, as you quickly get used to the fixed position of each individual key. After a short time, you can precisely rotate out the desired key in the dark or with one hand, without having to search for a long time at the front door.

The basic mechanical principle of the Organiser resembles the construction of a classic pocket knife. The individual keys are stacked on a central shaft and enclosed by two durable bands.

The keys have constant tension. As a result, they don't swing out on their own during movement, but can be fanned out with a slight thumb movement when needed. Depending on the thickness of the key bits, the system accommodates between two and seven conventional keys. Due to the parallel arrangement, the sharp edges remain hidden inside the housing, protecting textiles and electronic devices in the same pocket from abrasion.

While with some key Organisers, you often had to use a coin or a flathead screwdriver to readjust the tension or swap a key, here it works completely without tools. The locking mechanism can be operated by hand, making the exchange of individual keys much more convenient.

Car drivers were also considered, as a bulky car key or a remote key can be easily attached to the outside via the integrated eyelet.

Despite all its everyday usability, there are clear limits. Those who use particularly thick, unconventionally shaped security keys or old warded keys will quickly hit the capacity limits of the system.

Moreover, the construction requires some discipline when sorting, because if you cram too many keys in, the package becomes noticeably stiff and loses part of its otherwise very pleasant handling. For a typical set of four to five standard keys, however, the build remains slim and sits unobtrusively in the hand.

Multi-Tool v2

In addition to simply organizing keys, the system can be expanded with useful accessories. The Multi-Tool v2 is inserted into the band like a regular key and adds hardly any bulk when closed.

Overall, this flat stainless steel component combines nine different functions in a slim profile. In addition to the classic bottle opener and package opener for sealed shipments, the front edge serves as a practical letter opener. For DIY tasks, both a flathead screwdriver and a PH2 Phillips screwdriver are available.

An integrated pry edge is suitable for carefully lifting lids, while a coarse file smooths rough spots. The equipment is rounded off by two engraved measuring scales that measure short distances in either centimeters or inches.

Cosmic Range Edition

Orbitkey regularly releases editions of their Key Organiser. For example, there is a collaboration with Disney. The latest edition is the Cosmic Range Edition.

The Eclipse Edition from the limited Cosmic Range uses matte, deep black cowhide leather in combination with rust-free 316L stainless steel for the fittings.

The visual appeal lies in the interplay between the simple black band and the shimmering metal parts. These fittings have an iridescent oxide layer that refracts light and, depending on the viewing angle, shows subtle color nuances from bronze to green to violet and blue.

Because this process varies slightly on each component due to the material, no two pieces are exactly alike. To match this design, the manufacturer also offers the Multi-Tool v2 in a coordinated Cosmic Range Edition, made from 420 stainless steel with the same shimmering finish. This way, a uniform overall look on the keychain can be achieved if desired.

After several weeks of daily use, the matte black leather proves to be grippy and insensitive to moisture or dirt. At the metallic pivot points, only minimal signs of friction appear, which speaks for a solid surface treatment.

Despite the fine color changes, the Eclipse variant does not push itself into the foreground but blends neutrally with the rest of the photo and EDC equipment.
