The Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera Alpha 1 Model 2 is an instant camera. It was introduced in the 70s by the American company. It is similar in functionality to the Alpha 1. The housing is made of black plastic and covered with brown vinyl. Sometimes this model is also called “Alpha 2”.
The reflex camera comes with a fixed lens. 116 mm is the focal length of the lens. The maximum aperture of the camera is f/8. The lens is focused by hand, looking through the viewfinder, which is connected to the lens by mirrors. The model does not have an autofocus function. The closest focusing distance is 26.4 cm.
The Polaroid SX-70 Alpha 1 Model 2 has a built-in light meter. Therefore, the photographer cannot choose the exposure time and aperture. The camera sets the exposure automatically. The light/dark control dial can be used to change the settings slightly.
A tripod thread is provided with the Polaroid. Flashbars can also be connected to a socket on the top of the camera.
Films for the Polaroid SX-70 Alpha 1 Model 2
The instant camera is designed for the SX-70 format. The production of integral films was stopped after the bankruptcy of Polaroid. In the meantime, however, films for the old cameras are being produced again. They are sold under the “Polaroid Originals” brand.
For colour images there is the Polaroid Color Film for SX-70*. If you want to take black and white pictures with your SX-70 reflex camera you can use the Polaroid B&W Film for SX-70*. Both packages contain a film cassette with eight frames.
Of course, the camera also needs power. On models of this series the battery is located in the film cassette. This means that a new battery is inserted each time the film is changed. Depending on the age of the film, it is quite possible that the battery is already empty.
