The Nikon RF2 is a 35mm camera. It belongs to the group of snapshot cameras and was introduced in the 1980s. It is the successor of the Nikon RF. The camera was aimed at occasional photographers and beginners. The model was also offered under the name “Nikon One Touch 100”.
The 35mm photo camera comes with a lens that cannot be changed. The focal length of the lens is 35mm. The maximum aperture is f/3.5. The camera is equipped with an autofocus. The minimum distance to the subject is 65 cm.
The Nikon RF2 has an exposure meter. It can be used with films with ISO 100, ISO 200 and ISO 400. The film speed is determined by the DX code. The correct exposure is automatically set by the camera.
The built-in flash provides sufficient light. The flash has a range of 10 meters and a charging time of about 3.5 seconds. The 35mm camera has a built-in self-timer and a thread for a tripod. The self-timer has a lead time of 10 seconds.
The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 13.3 x 7.1 x 4.9 cm according to the manual. It weighs 250 grams. Two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) can be used as power source. Some versions of the Nikon RF2 also support a CR 123A battery (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Nikon RF2
The Nikon RF2 is designed for 35mm film according to the operating instructions. 35mm films are still produced today. They can be developed in most laboratories. The negatives of the camera have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. The Nikon RF2 automatically rewinds the film.
For colour photos there is the Kodak Portra 400*. One option for black and white images is the Ilford Delta 100*.
Colour film is developed in the C-41 process. The C-41 process is offered by almost every photo lab. You can hand in your films at most drugstore chains in Germany, for example. The black and white film can also be developed in many photo labs. You have more control over the development if you develop the film yourself with the appropriate photochemistry.
Nikon RD2
The Nikon RD2 comes with the same features. However, it also offers the option of including the date of recording in the captured image.

This data sheet is wrong regarding the battery type. The RF2 uses two AA batteries and the original instruction manual specified alkaline only. No NiCad rechargeables (which were the rechargeable type at the time). CR123 will not fit! Alkaline AA last very well!
Thank you for the comment and your first hand experience.
My assumption from this is that later models also support the CR123A, but I can be wrong.
