The Nikon FG20 is a single lens reflex camera. It was produced by Nikon from 1984 to 1986. It is considered as successor of the Nikon FG. It has a similar design, but the FG 20 lacks the program automatic and the automatic measurement of the attachable flash.
The lens of the Nikon FG20 is exchangeable. This is possible trough the Nikon F lens mount. The first camera with a Nikon F bayonet was introduced in the 1950s. Later, an autofocus function was added. Over 400 lenses were manufactured under the Nikkor name. Not all modern camera lenses can be used with the old film cameras. The Nikon FG20 has no autofocus. It is manually focused.
In the Nikon FG20 an exposure meter is built in. It is designed for an ISO range of 25 to 3200. The exposure is measured through the lens. The aperture and shutter speed are freely adjustable.
The camera comes with a bulb mode. The shutter stays open as long as desired. An external flash can be used via the hot shoe or PC flash port. The 35mm camera has a thread for a tripod. In addition, there is a connector for a cable release and a self-timer.
At a weight of 440 grams the size of the Nikon FG20 is 13,6 x 8,8 x 5,4 cm. The camera needs two LR44 batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Nikon FG20
The Nikon FG20 must be equipped with 35mm films. 35mm films are still produced today. They can be developed in most photo laboratories. For color shots there is the Kodak Portra 400*. One way to get black-and-white images is the AgfaPhoto APX 400*.
The color film is processed in the C-41 process. This development process is carried out by all photo laboratories offering the development of 35mm films.
The negatives of Nikon FG20 are 24 mm x 36 mm big. A common 35mm film fits about 36 photos at this size. For the next frame, the photographer has manually wind the camera.
The Nikon FG20 is no longer produced. The used price varies depending on the condition and functionality.
