The Nikon F90 is an SLR camera for 35mm film. It was produced by Nikon from 1992 to 2001. The Nikon F90 replaced the Nikon F801 and was classified as a semi-professional camera.
Its range of functions is quite similar to today’s DSLRs. Thus, the model has an autofocus, at that time the fastest from Nikon, a 3D matrix exposure metering, at that time a novelty, and the Nikon F bayonet, which is still used today.
The autofocus can be used in two different modes, Single Servo and Continuous Servo. There are even more choices when it comes to exposure. So you can choose between Manual (M), Aperture Priority (A), Time Priority (S), Program Automatic (P) or use one of the scene programs.
Four AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are needed to operate the 35mm SLR. This type of battery is very easy to find. Of course, rechargeable batteries can be used here as well.
A flash can be connected via the hot shoe. The use of a cable release and a tripod is possible with the SLR camera.
In the USA, the Nikon F90 was sold as the Nikon N90.
The Nikon F90x is a slight update of the F90 and was offered as the N90s in the US.
Films for the Nikon F90
The Nikon F90 requires photographic film to take pictures. More precisely, 35mm films are needed. Fortunately, you can still choose from a wide range of material for this film format.
For black and white pictures in 35mm format, the Ilford Delta 400* is a good choice. For color images with the F90, you can reach for the Kodak Portra 400*. There are, of course, other manufacturers of 35mm film on the market.
The C-41 development process is a commonly used method for developing color film. Most photo labs offer this service. Often, they also offer to make prints directly and also digitize the negatives.
The black and white film is processed in a black and white developer. This development work is also offered by many professional service providers. With the necessary accessories, you can also do the black and white development yourself and save some money in the long run.
By the way, the film is automatically transported further.
