Lomography Presents Instant Camera for Square Instax Format

After the Fujifilm Instax Square SQ10, there will now be another instant camera for Fuji's new square instant film format. Lomography has introduced the Lomo'Instant Square today. It is the fourth own instant camera from the Austrian company.

Unlike the SQ10, the Lomo'Instant Square does without a digital sensor and is therefore slightly larger. To still create a fairly compact camera, the folks at Lomography came up with a folding mechanism with a bellows for the instant camera.

The instant camera comes with a 95mm glass lens (45mm in 35mm format). Focusing is manual in three different zone focus settings. Aperture and shutter speed are set by the automatic mode. A bulb mode (up to 30 seconds) is available, as well as a self-timer, remote trigger, and the ability to take multiple exposures. A built-in flash and a tripod mount are also included.
Additionally, there is a portrait lens and a splitzer that can be attached to the front.

The films used are from Fujifilm. The actual image size on the film is 62 x 62 mm. The image is surrounded by a white frame. The complete size of the instant photo is 86 x 72 mm. For a ten-pack of Instax Square Film* you pay around 10 euros. So one picture costs about one euro.

As with other projects from Lomography, the Lomo'Instant Square is also being pre-sold via Kickstarter. The set goal of $100,000 was reached within less than 24 hours. According to Lomography, backers should receive the camera in February 2018.

Five different designs are available. The Lomo'Instant Square Black, Pigalle, Ginza, White, and a special edition for Kickstarter. The price ranges from 110 to 150 euros depending on the version. According to Lomography, the regular retail price is expected to be around $200 later.
