The range of Kodak films is no longer that large, now another film is being discontinued. In a press release, Kodak Alaris announced the end of production of the "KODAK PROFESSIONAL BW400CN". The reason given for the discontinuation is the steadily declining demand and customer usage.
The BW400CN (Amazon) will not disappear immediately; depending on demand, it will be available for up to six months. The only alternative after that to the Kodak BW400CN is the Ilford XP2 Super, which is still available and even as a medium format film.
With the discontinuation of the Kodak BW400CN, the number of professional photographic films from Kodak Alaris decreases to 7.
Still available are the Kodak T-Max 100 and T-Max 400, TRI-X 400, Ektar 100 and the three Portra films, 160, 400 and 800.
In my opinion, the number will rather decrease than increase. The next "victim" in my eyes would be the Kodak Portra 800. The only thing we as photographers can do against the discontinuation of films is to show demand by buying, and we should do that so that we can still photograph on Kodak film in the coming years.
