Chinese lens manufacturer 7Artisans expands its lineup of autofocus optics with a full-frame fisheye. The new 7Artisans AF 10mm f/2.5 MAX FF is designed for mirrorless camera systems and will be available simultaneously for Sony E, Nikon Z, and L-Mount. This grows the manufacturer's MAX series, which previously started with a 135mm f/1.8 telephoto lens, by adding an ultra-wide-angle prime.
Classic fisheye lenses traditionally work with manual focus. With the integration of an automatic focusing system, 7Artisans targets photographers and videographers who want to document fast-moving scenes in reportage, sports, or street photography. The autofocus supports modern camera features such as continuous tracking and detection of people and eyes.
The lens offers a focal length of 10 millimeters and covers an angle of view of approximately 185 degrees on full-frame sensors. This optical design produces the characteristic distortions of a fisheye perspective, capturing wide spaces and dynamic angles. With a maximum aperture of f/2.5, the optic can be used flexibly even in low-light conditions indoors or during twilight.
A key feature for image composition is the short minimum focusing distance of 15 centimeters. This allows photographers to get very close to the main subject while the background remains widely visible. This combination of a short minimum distance and a wide angle of view enables a clear separation between the foreground and the surroundings.
The housing is made of metal and weighs 510 grams. Despite its solid construction, the lens remains compact enough for mobile use on gimbals or during longer handheld video shoots.
For operation, there are two customizable function buttons, a button for A-B focus switching, and a switch for selecting the focus mode. The aperture can be set directly on the lens via a detented aperture ring.
The 7Artisans AF 10mm f/2.5 MAX FF will be available starting August 27. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $449. In addition to the official online store, the lens will also be distributed through international specialty retailers and various online platforms.
