The Naigai SRF is a 35mm camera and a mixture of SLR and P&S. It is very similar to the Great Wall PF-1 or the Fujica ST-F.
The camera lens cannot be changed. The lens has a focal length of 41 mm. The name of the lens is “Naigor Lens 1:2.8 41mm”. The Naigai SRF does not have an autofocus function. The focus is adjusted manually. The closest focusing distance of the lens is 90 cm.
The 35mm camera has an exposure meter. It is designed for films in a range from ISO 100 to ISO 400. The correct exposure is measured by a metering cell above the lens of the SLR.
The aperture can be freely selected. The shutter speed is not. A flash is built in for low light images. The 35mm camera comes with a thread for a tripod. It is also possible to use a cable release.
According to the manual the dimensions of the 35mm camera are 14.4 x 8.7 x 7.5 cm. It weighs 348 grams. The power supply is provided by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Naigai SRF
The Naigai SRF needs 35mm film. Films of this format are still easily available today and are still being developed. For colour photography there is the Fujifilm Superia 400*. One possibility for black and white images is the AgfaPhoto APX 400*.
The development of photo films is still possible without any problems nowadays, especially 35mm films are still developed by many photo labs. However, the prices for this service can vary greatly depending on the type and scope of the service. The most common process for developing colour film is the C-41 process, which is offered by almost all photo labs and follows a strict standard.
Developing black and white film, on the other hand, requires a special black and white developer, the results of which can vary greatly depending on the choice of developer. Professional photo labs also offer black and white development, but the best results are achieved by developing the film yourself and having full control. Online, you can find the necessary accessories for a home lab and also suitable developing chemicals for the film. Popular developers are Rodinal, XTOL, ID-11 or D-76, while Adox, Rollei or Foma are smaller suppliers that also offer suitable chemistry.

There were two Naigai SRF. The one you describe with a 41mm lens is similar in appearance, but simpler than the other which is a copy (made in Hong Kong) of the Fujica ST-F. It is in fact the same thing as the Hanimex 35 Reflex Flash. Naigai was a Japanese distributor of household equipment like Hanimex.
