Olympus AF 28mm f/2.8

  • Manufacturer Olympus
  • Focal Length 28 mm
  • Max Aperture f/2.8
  • Focus Autofocus

The Olympus AF 28mm f/2.8 is a lens from the Olympus brand. The wide-angle lens belongs to a series of autofocus lenses from the traditional Japanese company. They were introduced at the end of the OM series.

The manufacturer specifies the focal length as 28 mm. Therefore, it can be counted to the group of wide-angle lenses. The largest aperture of the lens is f/2.8. f/22 is the smallest available aperture. 30 cm distance is required for a sharp subject.

The lens can theoretically be attached to cameras with Olympus OM mount. However, it is an electronically controlled autofocus lens. Aperture and focus are set by the camera electronics and cannot be changed manually on the lens. Therefore, it can only be used with two models in the series, the OM-707 (OM-77 AF) and OM-101 PF (OM-88). Therefore, using it on other SLR cameras or on modern digital cameras makes little sense. Here, one should reach for other Olympus lenses.

The lens is built up of six lens elements in six groups. A filter lens can be screwed in front of the glass. The filter should fit a 49 mm thread. The Olympus AF 28mm f/2.8 weighs 170 grams. The length is given as 3.2 cm with a maximum diameter of 6.2 cm.
