The 7Artisans AF 40mm f/2.5 is a compact autofocus lens for modern mirrorless full-frame cameras. The brand 7Artisans, originally known for purely manual prime lenses, is expanding its range of lenses with automatic focus with this model.
The focal length of 40 mm occupies a practical position between the classic focal lengths of 35 mm and 50 mm. This angle of view corresponds quite closely to the natural field of view of the human eye, making the lens suitable for many areas of everyday photography as well as street photography and reportage.
With a weight of about 90 grams, the construction is one of the lightest prime lenses on the market. The body is largely made of plastic. Due to its small dimensions with a length of about 40 mm, the lens fits well on compact camera bodies.
A filter thread with a diameter of 46 mm allows the use of common screw-in filters. On the bayonet side, there is also a USB-C port through which firmware updates can be performed.
The maximum aperture of this lens is f/2.5. Inside, 9 aperture blades ensure a uniform opening. The built-in stepper motor sets the focus. The minimum focusing distance is 40 cm, allowing close-up shots. There is a switch on the body that allows photographers to switch directly between automatic and manual focus. Additionally, a freely assignable function button is available.
The 7Artisans AF 40mm f/2.5 is currently available for the Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Leica L-mount. The new price is around 160 US dollars.
