The Kruitvat 200 is a color negative film. Using its own brand, the film was sold by a Dutch drugstore chain, but the company was not responsible for its production. Kruitvat, now part of the A.S. Watson Group, carried the film until the early 2000s.

The Kruitvat 200 can be used to take very classic color pictures. The recommended ISO value of the film is ISO 200, which makes it suitable for many shooting situations. It was aimed more at home users than professional photographers and photographers.

Development of the film

Today, if you can find such a film, you can still use it. Once it is fully exposed, it must be developed without first being exposed to light, otherwise all shots will be lost.

Unlike black and white film development, the C-41 development process is standardized and follows a fixed procedure. In Germany, the Kruitvat 200 can be dropped off for development at major drugstore chains. After processing, film strips with the captured images are produced.

The finished negatives can be scanned, printed or used for prints. Many developing labs offer making prints as an additional option.

Conversion to digital formats

Another option is to digitize the negatives using a scanner. This service is offered by many photo labs, but a home scanner can also be used. The digitized images can then be shared on various platforms or printed in various formats.

Film formats

The Kruitvat 200 has been exclusively available in 35mm format. It has been produced within the European Union. One roll of this color film can take 36 pictures, although variants with fewer pictures were also available. The number is indicated on the packaging.

The film cassette is DX encoded and there is a wide range of suitable 35mm format models available from various manufacturers, including Olympus, Rollei and Fujifilm.

An alternative is to use the Kodak Gold 200*, which provides solid color images and is relatively inexpensive.
