The Kodak VR35 K4 is a snapshot camera. It was manufactured by Eastman Kodak and presented in the 80s. The model was aimed at beginners and occasional users. The camera is very easy to use due to the few settings. The housing is made of plastic and is black in color.

The lens of the camera is fixed. The focal length of the lens is 38 mm. The maximum aperture is f/5.6. The focus of the lens is fixed, so you can’t focus it yourself. You should not get too close to your subject, otherwise you will get blurry images.

The aperture can only be adjusted indirectly. There is a slider for ISO 100, ISO 200 and ISO 400 films. Depending on the setting, the aperture of the camera changes. The shutter speed remains the same in all cases and cannot be changed. It will probably be in the range of 1/100 second. The camera does not have an exposure meter.

There is a built-in flash for taking pictures in low light conditions. When the flash is on, the aperture is also changed. This happens even when there is no battery in the camera. Power is supplied by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). The batteries are only necessary for the flash, the rest of the camera works fully mechanically.

Films for the Kodak VR35 K4

What is needed for the Kodak VR35 K4 is 35mm film. The 35mm format is very common, so even today there are some manufacturers and many developing laboratories. Possible films for the Kodak VR35 K4 are the Kodak Ultramax 400* for color photos and the Ilford Delta 400* for B&W images. To the next photo, the film is manually wound with a thumbwheel on the back. The film is rewound manually with a crank. The film can then be removed from the camera and taken for development.

Color film is developed using the C-41 process. This development process is available at almost every photo lab. Developing a 35mm color film is possible, for example, at most drugstore chains in Germany. Black and white film cannot be processed in this process, but must go into a black and white developer. This type of development is offered by most professional laboratories.
