The Kodak Star 500AF is a point-and-shoot camera. It was manufactured by Kodak in China and presented in the 90s. The model was aimed at beginners and amateur photographers. You can use it without a manual, as there are very few setting options.

The lens of the 35mm photo camera is fixed. You don’t have to focus manually with the 35mm camera. The Kodak Star 500AF has an autofocus. The focal length will probably be between 30 and 35 mm. There is no indication on the camera. It does not have a zoom function.

The camera has a light meter. This is designed for films with ISO 100 and ISO 400. The camera technology determines the correct film speed via the DX code. The correct exposure is set automatically by the camera. There are no adjustment options for the photographer.

A flash is installed for pictures in low light. This has an automatic mode for red-eye reduction. There is also a button for a fill flash, for example when taking pictures with backlight. The power source of the 35mm camera is 2x AAA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) or a CR123A battery (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Kodak Star 500AF

The Kodak Star 500AF exposes 35mm film. These films are still being manufactured and can be specified by almost any developing vendor. Possible films for this model are the Kodak Ultramax 400* and the Ilford Delta 100*. Both photo films are good for everyday or vacation shots and can convince in test reports.

The color film is a color negative film and is developed in the C-41 process. This process is offered by almost every photo lab. The black and white film cannot be developed in this process, but needs a developer like Rodinal or D-76.

The exposure area of the camera is 24 mm x 36 mm. The film in the camera is automatically transported to the next frame after each exposure. A counter on the top shows the current number of frames taken.

The photo camera can only be bought used. Depending on the state of preservation, the cost of the camera varies. The value is probably between 5 and 15 Euro for the camera with plastic case. Additionally, a Quartz Date version was produced. This version can additionally imprint the recording time and date into the pictures.
