The Kodak Star 320 MD is a compact camera for snapshots. It was introduced by Kodak in the 90s. The model was produced in a factory in China. The target group was beginners and occasional users. For this reason, the setting range is very reduced, actually non-existent. Professional photographers may find this annoying, but the advantage is that you don’t need a manual to use the camera.
In addition to the regular model, a variant was sold with the option for imprinting the date the picture was taken. The Quartz Date thus makes it much easier to determine when the photo was taken.
The photo camera comes with a fixed lens. The focus of the lens cannot be changed. The focal length is not specified, but is usually in the range of 30 and 35 mm for these models. The model does not have a zoom function.
The 35 mm camera has a built-in light meter. The aperture and shutter speed are automatically controlled by the camera’s electronics.
A flash is built in for taking pictures in low light conditions. The flash can also be turned off if desired. There is also an automatic red-eye prevention function. Two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are responsible for the power supply. There is no thread for a tripod. There is also no self-timer.
Films for the Kodak Star 320 MD
Without photo films, nothing works with the Kodak Star 320 MD. More precisely, the camera needs 35mm films. These are still easy to get today and are also still developed. Possible films for the point-and-shoot camera are the Kodak Ultramax 400* for color images and the Ilford HP5* for black-and-white images. Of course, films from other manufacturers can also be used with the camera.
The color film is developed using the C-41 process. This is offered by almost every photo lab. The film for black and white pictures has to be developed in a developer like Rodinal, D-76 or ID11.
The exposure area of the Kodak Star 320 MD is 24 mm x 36 mm. At this size, 36 images fit on a standard roll of 35 mm film. The film is transported automatically. It is also rewound into the cartridge at the end by a motor.
