The Kodak Prostar 100 / Pro-Star 100 is a snapshot camera. It was introduced by Kodak in the 90s. The model was aimed at hobby photographers. The housing is made of plastic and is kept in black. The camera would probably not win a prize for design and value.

The camera comes with a fixed lens with a fixed focal length. There is no possibility to change the focus. Also the shutter speed and aperture cannot be changed. There is no exposure meter or a possibility to adjust the film speed.

The Kodak Prostar 100 comes with a built-in flash. The camera requires two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). The batteries are only used for the flash. The flash can be switched off if desired. The rest of the camera works mechanically. The photographer must manually advance to the next picture.

Films for the Kodak Prostar 100

35mm films are exposed in the Kodak Prostar 100. 35mm films are still produced by various manufacturers. A possible film for color images is the Fujifilm Superia 400*. One possibility for b/w images is the Kodak T-Max 400*. Both films are well suited for everyday shots with the camera.

The development of photographic films can be easily performed by many photo laboratories, especially for 35mm films. Prices for the service can vary greatly depending on the type and scope of the service. The recommended color film is developed using the C-41 process, which is offered by almost all photo labs and follows a strict standard.

To develop black and white film, you need a special black and white developer, which can give different results depending on the developer you choose. Professional photo labs also offer black and white development. However, the best results are obtained when you develop the film yourself, since you have full control. The necessary accessories and the appropriate developing chemistry for the film can be purchased online. Popular developers include Rodinal, XTOL, ID-11 or D-76. There are also smaller suppliers such as Adox, Rollei or Foma that also offer suitable chemicals.
