The Kodak Portra 400 VC is a color negative film. The “VC” in its name stands for “Vivid Color”.

With its sensitivity of ISO 400, it is also suitable for taking pictures in unfavorable lighting conditions.

Kodak no longer manufactures the Portra 400 VC. It and the Portra 400 NC were replaced by the Portra 400.

Kodak advertised it with brilliant colors and just the high sensitivity. It was also supposed to deliver rich and intense colors when shooting outdoors.

The exposed Portra 400 VC was developed in the C-41 process. The color film was produced in various formats, for medium format, 35 mm and large format cameras. Of course, you can still use the film today if you can get remnants of the film stock.

Development of the Kodak Portra 400 VC

How is the Kodak Portra 400 VC developed?

Once you have exposed the Kodak Portra film, it is important to make sure that it is not exposed to light before developing it using the C-41 process. The C-41 process is standardized and offered by most labs, which means you can get almost identical results regardless of the lab. Large drugstore chains in Germany also offer the option of sending in the Portra 400 VC for development.

After developing the film, one receives the captured images in the form of film strips. These can either be digitized or used as photographic prints. Many laboratories offer the creation of prints in various sizes as an additional service directly during development.

Scanning the negatives

For the digitization of the film strips, there are various scanner devices that vary in functions and quality and are suitable for different budgets. The digitized results can be used both digitally to further process or share on social media, or put back into analog form, such as a photo book or poster.
