The Kodak Ektar 100 is a color negative film. It was introduced by Kodak in 2008.

The sensitivity is specified with ISO 100. The film is based on Kodak VISION film technology and is said to be the finest grain color negative film in the world.

Pictures taken with the Kodak Ektar 100, are characterized by high saturation and vivid colors. In addition, there is the fine grain of the color film. For portraits, it is not necessarily the best choice; here, for example, a Kodak Portra 160 is preferable. This is mainly due to the high saturation, which is not advantageous for every person. Kodak itself recommends the application area nature, travel, outdoor, fashion and product photography.

Development of the Kodak Ektar 100

To obtain the finished images, the Kodak Ektar 100 must be developed using the C-41 process when the film is full. Many photo labs offer development of color negative film because the development process for color film is standardized, unlike black and white film. With the appropriate photo chemistry and some skill, color film can also be processed by yourself, and after its development, the film strips with the captured photos will be available.

The finished negatives can be scanned and printed. Most developing laboratories offer the possibility of creating prints in various sizes directly as a service.

Digitization

Digitizing negatives is a common practice for photo labs and is also offered as a service. Alternatively, one can also use a scanner for home use. After digitization, the photos can be further processed in digital form or shared on social media.

Formats

The Kodak Ektar 100 is available as 35mm film and medium format film. It is also available as sheet film in 4×5 inch and 8×10 inch formats for large format cameras.

35mm film

35mm format is a popular choice among photographers because it contains a roll of film containing 36 frames. The film’s cartridge is DX encoded, which allows the camera to automatically detect the sensitivity of the film stock. Manufacturers such as Leica, Kodak, and Fujifilm offer cameras designed for the 35mm format that deliver top-notch image quality.
