The Kirkland Signature 200 is a color negative film. This film was distributed by the US retail chain Costco under the “Kirkland” brand. The color films were manufactured in Germany. The material came from the German company Agfa.

The Kirkland Signature 200 was used to make color photographs. Photographs made with this film are classic color images that faithfully depict the photographed moment. The film is great for taking color photographs on vacation, at weddings and parties, or for family pictures.

The film’s light sensitivity is specified as ISO 200. The ISO value can be used to determine the sensitivity of the film material to light. An ISO of 200 is fine for everyday situations and is recognized by most light meters.

Exposure of expired film stock

Older film stock that has been stored under unfavorable storage conditions may result in underexposed images as light sensitivity decreases. It may happen that the photos are underexposed when using the specified ISO value. Therefore, it is recommended to select a lower ISO value on the camera.

Increased film grain, lower contrasts or color deviations may be other factors affecting image quality. Proper storage of unexposed film stock can help ensure subsequent image quality.

Film processing

To obtain images from exposed film, C-41 process development is required. This development process is performed by most photographic laboratories. The standardized sequence of the development process is identical at all photo labs. The development results are film strips with the captured images.

Afterwards, prints of the images can be created or they can be scanned for digital purposes. Many labs offer additional options for creating prints in different sizes when developing images.

Digitization

Another way is to digitize using a scanner. Many photo labs perform digitization of negatives. However, it is also possible to purchase a scanner for personal use. After the images are digitized, they can be digitally processed or used in printed form.

Availability and alternatives

The Kirkland Signature 200 was designed for 35mm cameras. There are several manufacturers, such as Lomo, Nikon, Olympus, and Agfa, that make cameras for the 35mm format. There are also other cameras available that are suitable for use with 35mm film.

The manufacturer of the color film has stopped production and the film is no longer available at Costco. The Kodak Gold 200* could be a replacement for 35mm film.
