The Haking Vision Mini Junior presents itself as a compact snapshot camera, ideal for spontaneous recordings at weddings or parties. It is a product of the company Haking, which is based in Hong Kong and built cameras in the 1990s, among other things. However, it is produced in a factory in Thailand.
Camera properties
The 35mm lens is fixed and cannot be changed. While the exact focal length is not given, it is estimated to be somewhere between 28mm and 35mm. There is no zoom function on this model.
An autofocus function is missing because it is a focus-free model in which the focus setting is fixed. A sliding cover protects the lens from potential damage and contamination.
The Haking Vision Mini Junior comes with an embedded light meter. The sensitivity of the film used is automatically identified by the film cartridge, while aperture and exposure time are set autonomously by the camera, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.
Of course, the camera also has an integrated flash function. It offers a special “red-eye” reduction mode. A tripod connection and a self-timer function are available. However, a hand strap can be attached for easier handling.
As a power source, the camera requires CR123A batteries (eBay / Amazon*), which are easily found online. A battery charge lasts for a considerable period of time.
Film variants for the Haking Vision Mini Junior
According to the user manual, the Haking Vision Mini Junior uses 35mm film. Although the camera has ceased production, such film is still readily available and can be developed.
Recommended films for this compact camera are Kodak Gold 200* for color shots and Ilford Delta 400* for black and white photographs. There are also a variety of other brands such as Lomography, Fujifilm, Rollei, Adox and Foma that make suitable films available.
The dimensions of the Haking Vision Mini Junior negatives are 24 mm x 36 mm. A motorized system ensures film advances automatically after each shot, with a counter on top showing the number of frames taken.
At the end of the film, it is automatically rewound into its cassette. Only then should you open the camera housing to remove the film and have it developed. If the film is not fully rewound, the camera should not be opened to prevent light entering and destroying the film.
