The Haking Junior is a viewfinder camera. It’s a rather simple model made by Haking company from Hong Kong. There’s also the Haking Junior G and the Junior F. The Junior G comes with a plastic grip on the front. The Junior F has a different flash connection.

The lens of the 35mm camera is fixed and has a focal length of 45mm. The optics carry the label “Hakinon Lens Color Corrected Lens f=45mm”. One shouldn’t expect the highest quality in terms of picture output.

The focus on the camera is fixed. This means you don’t have to set the focus manually, and there’s no autofocus either. For sharp pictures, one should maintain a minimum distance of about 1 to 1.5 meters from the subject.

The maximum aperture is around f/8. There are three exposure settings. Depending on film sensitivity and lighting conditions, one can choose a value. Small weather symbols assist in this.

The settings modify the set aperture value. This camera does not have an exposure meter. Overall, there’s no exposure electronics in the camera, and the aperture setting is the only adjustable feature on this model.

Through the built-in hot shoe, an external flash unit can be triggered. The camera is mechanical and can take photos without batteries.

Films for the Haking Junior

The Haking Junior requires 35mm films. Unlike the camera itself, 35mm films are still readily available today and are developed by most photo labs.

The camera exposes an area of 24mm x 36mm. So, in most cases, about 36 images fit on a roll of film.

The Fujifilm Superia 400* is a popular film for photographers who want to capture beautiful color images. Fans of black and white photography, however, often prefer the Kodak T-Max 400* black and white film. According to various reviews, they are well-suited for everyday shots and provide solid results.

It’s necessary to process the color film using the C-41 development process. Most photo labs commonly offer the C-41 process. The mentioned black and white film must be processed in a suitable black and white developer.

The camera requires manual film advancement by the photographer to get to the next image since there is no automatic option. For this purpose, there’s a thumbwheel on the back.

When you reach the end of the roll, the film needs to be rewound. To do this, press the small button on the bottom. Then, the film material can be wound back into the cartridge using the crank. Once this step is done, the back can be opened, and the film roll removed.
