Golden Half

The Superheadz Golden Half is a 35mm camera. Introduced by Powershovel / Superheadz in 2007, the camera is made of plastic and is very small and compact (88 x 72 x 32 mm). The 35 mm camera weighs just 90 grams. The body of the Golden Half itself is black. The front is printed with different patterns, depending on the model.

The Golden Half is a half frame camera. This means that it only exposes an area of 18×24 mm on a 35 mm film, half of a normal picture. So on a 36 frames film you have 72 pictures (with 24 frames 48 pictures and with 12 frames 24 pictures).

The advantage of this is that more pictures fit on the film, making photography cheaper. The pictures can be separated after development or you can leave the two different pictures together (diptych) and tell little stories.

The lens in the Golden Half is fixed and a fixed focal length, so there is no zoom. The Golden Half does not offer many settings. The exposure time is fixed, as is the focus.

The aperture can be set between f/8 and f/11, which is not very fast. So if you’re not shooting in sunshine, you should use a more sensitive film in the camera. Or you can connect a flash to the hot shoe. Taking pictures is quite easy due to the few settings.

The Golden Half is equipped with a simple viewfinder. It is also equipped with a connection for a tripod and a wrist strap.

An alternative to the Golden Half would be the Diana Mini (eBay / Amazon*), which offers a bit more features, like the ability to shoot square images. If you have a little more money and want better quality pictures, the Canon Demi or the Olympus Pen would be an alternative.
