The Fujifilm Natura S is a 35mm camera. It is a viewfinder camera for the Japanese market. For this reason, the names on the display are also in Japanese. It was produced by Fujifilm from 2001 to 2006. The camera was available in aqua, rose and lavender. It was also available in a slightly different design in black, the Fujifilm Natura Black.
The camera was designed specifically for shooting in natural light. Therefore, it comes with an f/1.9 lens. Since the body is only 37 mm thick, a zoom was omitted. The camera is built so compactly that the back element of the autofocus lens almost touches the film.
The lens of the Fujifilm Natura S is fixed. The lens is named “Super-EBC Fujinon Lens f=24mm 1:1.9.” The focal length is 24 mm. The widest aperture is f/1.9 and the camera has autofocus. The closest focusing distance of this lens is 40 cm.
Taking pictures is made easier by the built-in light meter. It was designed for films with a sensitivity of ISO 50 to ISO 3200. Due to the DX-coding of the cartridge, it recognizes the correct sensitivity. Photography is done in program automatic, the aperture cannot be changed by the photographer. Exposure can be corrected from +2 to -2. There is a built-in flash for shooting in low light conditions. The flash has a recharge time of 5 seconds and can be operated in different modes (Auto, Always, Off, Night Portrait, Red-eye).
The Fujifilm Natura S comes with a self-timer (10 seconds). There is also a tripod mount.
Films for the Fujifilm Natura S
The Fujifilm Natura S uses 35mm film. 35mm films are still made and are developed without problems at most photo labs.
The snapshot camera is designed specifically for Fujifilm Natura 1600 film. If the camera detects an ISO 800 or ISO 1600 film, it doesn’t have to be the Natura, it switches to NP mode. This automatically compensates for the exposure and allows shooting in natural light where the built-in flash would otherwise fire.
Possible films for the Fujifilm Natura S are the Kodak Portra 800* for color photos and the Kodak TRI-X 400* for B&W photos. The development of the color film is the C-41 process. The C-41 process is performed by almost all photo labs. The film transport is automatic. The camera winds to the next frame after each shutter release.
The dimensions of the Fujifilm Natura S are 10.9 x 5.8 x 3.7 cm. It weighs in at 195 grams. The required power for the camera comes from a CR2 battery (eBay / Amazon*).
The production of the Fujifilm Natura S has ended and today you can only buy it used. The used price of a Fujifilm Natura S depends on its condition. In Germany, it is difficult to get, because it was just made for the Japanese market.
