The Exakta HS-10 is a classic SLR camera. It was manufactured by Cosina and marketed under the brand name Exakta. The Japanese company offered a functionally identical model as the Cosina CT-1 EX.
Lens
A wide variety of lenses can be attached via the K bayonet. All major focal lengths are available for the Pentax K mount, as this mount is also known.
The photographer manually adjusts the focus using the focusing ring, aided by a split-image and microprism system in the viewfinder. The aperture is also manually controlled on the lens.
Exposure Settings
To meter the exposure, the user activates the center-weighted TTL system by tapping the shutter button. A three-LED display in the viewfinder (+/O/-) provides feedback on the selected setting. The correct exposure is achieved by adjusting the shutter speed and aperture until the green LED lights up.
The shutter allows exposure times from 1 second to 1/2000 second, as well as long exposures (B mode). The film speed can be adjusted to the film load within the range of ISO 25 to 1600.
Flash System
Flash photography is possible via the Exakta HS-10’s standard hot shoe. The sync speed is set to 1/125 second or slower. Exposure control with flash is manual.
Additional Functions
A film advance lever is used to cock the shutter and activate the metering system. A tripod thread is provided on the bottom, and the film is manually rewound into the cartridge at the end.
Dimensions and Weight
The Exakta HS-10 camera body weighs 410 grams and measures 133 mm wide, 85 mm high, and 50 mm deep.
Power Supply
The light meter works with two LR44 or SR44 batteries (eBay / Amazon*) . All other camera functions, including the shutter release, are purely mechanical and do not require power.
Film Recommendations
This camera accepts any 35mm film. The photographer must manually enter the film’s ISO sensitivity (range 25-1600) using the camera’s ISO dial.
Fortunately, many manufacturers still produce films suitable for the Exakta HS-10. For example, there’s a solid color film, the Kodak Gold 200*. For example, you can buy the Ilford Delta 100* for black and white photos.
