The Olympus Superzoom 110 is a snapshot camera. It dates back to the 90s. The model was also offered as "Olympus OZ 110 Zoom" in Japan. Photographers in the US could also buy it as the "SuperZoom 3000 (Infinity SuperZoom 3000)". Additionally, there was a model with the option of imprinting the date the picture was taken. The available dates go up to the year 2020.
The camera comes with a fixed lens. The name of the lens is "Olympus Lens Zoom" and it is composed of ten elements in eight groups. The zoom lens has a focal length range of 38 mm to 110 mm. The largest aperture is f/3.8 (38 mm) and f/8.1 (110 mm). There is no need to focus manually with the 35 mm camera. The Olympus Superzoom 110 has an autofocus. The closest focusing distance of the lens is 60 cm.
The 35mm camera has a built-in light meter. This is designed for an ISO range of 50 to 3200. The correct sensitivity is determined via the DX code on the film cartridge. If the cartridge does not have a code, a default value of ISO 100 is always set. The aperture and shutter speed are set automatically by the Olympus Superzoom 110.
Sufficient light is provided by the built-in flash. The flash range is 0.6 meters - 5.9 meters at ISO 100 in wide angle. The flash can be used in an automatic mode, an automatic mode with red-eye reduction, or as a fill-in flash. It can also be completely disabled if desired.
The 35mm photo camera has a built-in self-timer and a thread for a tripod. The self-timer has a delay of 12 seconds. There is also the option to move the camera to take a picture via a wireless shutter release.
The camera weighs 305 grams and measures 13.3 x 6.8 x 5.6 cm. Two CR 123A batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are responsible for the power supply. This type of batteries are still easy to find today.
Camera modes
There are no direct setting options regarding aperture and shutter speed on the camera. Instead, there are various modes. You can see the currently selected mode via a display on the top, where the number of remaining pictures is also shown.
Spot
Focus and exposure are set to the center of the image.
Auto Zoom
The subject's head and shoulders fill the image. The camera zooms automatically.
Night Scene
Shooting mode for photos at night. This mode can be combined with the four different flash modes.
AF-P
Automatically focuses on a subject that is in motion.
Infinity
The focus is fixed at infinity. This mode makes sense for landscape photos.
Films for the Olympus Superzoom 110
The Olympus Superzoom 110 uses 35mm film. 35mm films are still made and are developed without problems at most photo labs. Two great films for the 35mm camera are the Kodak Gold 200* and the Ilford Delta 400*. Both can be used to take beautiful color and black and white pictures, respectively.
The negatives of the photo camera have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. So at least 36 photos fit on a 36 frame 35mm film. The film is automatically transported further by the Olympus Superzoom 110. The motor also takes over the transport back into the cartridge. Only at this point, the back of the camera may be opened.
