The Miranda Solo is an affordable 35mm camera from the Miranda brand. Manufactured in Asia, its housing is made of plastic. When it was launched, it was inexpensive and aimed at occasional users and beginners.
In terms of functionality, the Miranda Solo is quite simple. It has a fixed lens. The lens has a focal length of 33 mm and is therefore well suited for a variety of applications. It has a fixed focus, with no auto focus or zoom. The shutter speed should be 1/125 second and there is no light meter. Aperture and shutter speed settings are not available.
An integrated flash can be used if required. Two AAA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) serve as the energy source. Without flash operation, no battery supply is required for the camera.
Film options for the Miranda Solo
The camera requires 35mm film. Despite the digital age, several manufacturers continue to produce this type of film. It should be noted that films have to be rotated manually because there is no automatic film transport. There is a thumbwheel for film transport. When the film is full, the film is transported back into the cartridge with a crank.
Suitable films for the Miranda Solo include the Kodak Ultramax 400* for color images and the Ilford Delta 100* for black and white images. These films have proven to be reliable, although there are many other compatible film types. There is suitable material from Lomography, Foma, Adox or Fujifilm.
As for film processing, color film is processed using the C-41 process, a standard used by almost every photo lab. Black and white film requires a special black and white developer. Many film packages come with instructions that make the development process easier.
