The Miranda 35 SF, produced by Haking, is a handy viewfinder camera designed for use with 35mm film. Manufactured in Hong Kong, it was mainly aimed at beginners and sporadic photographers. It has the same range of functions as the Haking MW 35S.

There is no provision for changing the lens on this unit. The lens is called "Fully Coated Miranda Lens". It has a focal length of 38 mm and a maximum aperture of f/3.8.

Focusing is manual, as there is no autofocus. The shortest distance to the subject is 100 cm. A zone autofocus offers four levels: 1 metre, 1.5 metres, 3 metres and infinity.

The Miranda 35 SF has an integrated metering cell for measuring exposure. It accepts ISO values between 50 and 400, and its automatic exposure controls both shutter speed and aperture, keeping the shutter speed constant and varying only the aperture.

For low-light situations, a built-in flash is available to provide clear images.

In addition, the camera offers a cable release connection, a tripod thread and the possibility to attach a camera strap.

It is powered by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*), which are easy to find and replace. One set of batteries lasts quite a long time in this case.

Film selection for the Miranda 35 SF

The Miranda 35 SF depends on photographic film, specifically 35mm film. These films are still available and can be easily developed in most specialist laboratories.

Particularly recommended for colour and black and white photography are the Kodak Portra 400* and the Ilford Delta 400*. Both films are praised in reviews for their quality. However, there are also other suppliers such as Lomography, Rollei, Fujifilm or Adox that offer suitable films.

The exposure range of this camera is 24 mm x 36 mm. A standard film (135-36) usually holds 36 frames. Thanks to a motorised system, the film is automatically moved on after each exposure and also during the return transport.

An indicator on the top shows whether the film is being transported correctly and next to it there is a counter that shows the number of photos taken.
