The Hanimex 35MS is a 35mm camera from the Hainimex brand. Produced by Haking, it presents itself as a compact entry-level camera for 35mm film. The production of the model took place in Hong Kong. A functionally identical model is the Haking MW 35S.

There is no provision for changing the lens on this unit. It has a lens with a focal length of 38 mm and a maximum aperture of f/3.8.

You have to adjust the focus manually, as there is no autofocus function. A minimum distance of 100 cm to the subject is required. A zone autofocus with steps of 1 metre, 1.5 metres, 3 metres and infinity is integrated.

A light meter is built into the Hanimex 35MS. It accepts ISO values between 50 and 400. With this 35-mm camera, the automatic system takes over the setting of exposure time and aperture, so no manual adjustment is possible. The shutter speed remains constant, while only the aperture adjusts.

An internal flash is available for taking pictures in low light.

A cable release can be connected to the Hanimex 35MS, and it has a tripod thread on the bottom. A camera strap can also be attached.

Power is supplied by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*), which are easy to find and optionally rechargeable. One battery charge lasts longer than average.

Film options for the Hanimex 35MS

The Hanimex 35MS only works with photographic film, specifically 35mm film. These films are still available and can be easily developed in most specialist laboratories.

Recommended 35mm films are, for example, the Kodak Portra 400* for colour shots and the Ilford Delta 400* for black and white shots. Both films are valued for their quality images. However, there are many other brands such as Lomography, Rollei, Fujifilm and Adox that also offer suitable films.

The exposure format of this camera is 24 mm x 36 mm. Usually 36 pictures fit on a standard film (135-36). The camera automatically advances the film after each exposure, and rewinding is also automated.

An indicator on the top shows whether the film is being transported properly, and next to it there is a counter for the shots taken.
