The LomoApparat is a compact viewfinder camera from Lomography. It was presented to the public in October 2022. The 35mm camera is produced by Lomography in China. The standard model comes with a black plastic housing. Various editions of the camera have been introduced over time.

The camera comes with a fixed lens. With a focal length of 21 mm, the maximum aperture is f/10, which is a so-called wide-angle lens. The lens can capture a wide angle of view. It is characterized by high contrasts and vignetting (darkening of the corners).

The 35 mm camera does not have autofocus. The distance is fixed. For a sharp and detailed image, a distance of at least 50 cm from the subject is required.

The correct exposure cannot be measured by the Lomo camera as it does not have a light meter. The aperture is fixed. You can choose between an exposure time of 1/100 s (N) and Bulb (B). In bulb mode, the shutter remains open for an unlimited time. Only when the shutter release button is released does the shutter close in Bulb mode.

A flash is built into the camera to ensure high-quality images in poor lighting conditions or low light. At ISO 100, the range is 0.5 meters to 2 meters. The flash can also be switched off if desired. A special feature of the flash is a frame for color filters with which the light can be colored.

The camera is equipped with a thread for a tripod. A tripod should be used when using the bulb mode to avoid blurred images. A hand strap can also be attached to the camera.

Which battery does the LomoApparat need? An AA battery (eBay / Amazon*) is required. This type of battery is very easy to obtain and therefore very inexpensive. The power supply is only necessary for the flash.

Films for the LomoApparat

The LomoApparat is a camera that was designed exclusively for 35mm film and exposes it. There is still a large selection of color and black and white films for this format. Many photographers like to choose Kodak Ultramax 400* for their color pictures, while they often prefer Ilford XP2 Super* for black and white pictures.

The color film is intended for development in the C-41 process, which is offered in most photo labs and also in many drugstores. Black and white film can be developed either in a photo lab or at home, with detailed instructions available online.

The negatives of the LomoApparat measure 24 mm x 36 mm. As the camera does not have an automatic film advance, you have to manually advance to the next image by using the thumbwheel on the back.

Accessories for the Lomography camera

There are some special accessories for the Lomography camera. For example, there is a close-up lens. This lens makes it possible to take pictures at a distance of 20 cm.

There is also a kaleidoscope attachment that allows you to take crazy pictures.

For multiple exposures, which are possible with the camera in unlimited numbers, there is a splitter. With a splitter, part of the image can be covered while the rest continues to be exposed. This allows different subjects or scenes to be combined in a single image without them completely overlapping.

The splitter allows the photographer to control specific areas of the image to create unique, creative compositions.
