A distinctive feature of this 35mm camera is its fixed lens, which cannot be changed. It offers a wide-angle focal length of 21mm with a fixed aperture of f/10. The focus is also fixed, meaning the photographer doesn't need to manually adjust the focus – ideal for quick snapshots and uncomplicated photography. The camera is designed to capture subjects sharply from a distance of 50cm; anything closer is out of focus.

The LomoApparat Alexanderplatz relies entirely on the photographer for exposure measurement. It does not have a built-in light meter, so the correct settings must be determined externally, for example, with a handheld light meter or by experience (such as the "Sunny 16" rule).

For creative long exposures or shots in very low light, the LomoApparat Alexanderplatz offers a bulb setting ("B" mode), which keeps the shutter open as long as the shutter button is pressed. If ambient light is insufficient, a built-in flash is available. Its range is stated to be approximately 0.5 to 2 meters when using ISO 100 film, suitable for close-ups or for illuminating foreground subjects.

To avoid camera shake during longer exposure times, the camera has a tripod mount.

The power required for operation, especially for the flash, is provided by a single, standard AA battery (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the LomoApparat Alexanderplatz

Which films fit the LomoApparat Alexanderplatz? The camera is designed for the classic 35mm format. This film format remains very popular today, which is why numerous manufacturers continue to offer a wide range of films for it.

Good all-rounders for the LomoApparat Alexanderplatz include color film Fujifilm Superia 400* or black-and-white film Ilford HP5*. Both are considered reliable options that, in our experience, deliver good and consistent results.

The color film mentioned is a color negative film. It is developed using the standardized C-41 process. This process is offered by most photo labs worldwide, making development straightforward.

The camera exposes the standard 35mm format with dimensions of 24 mm x 36 mm on the film. A typical 35mm film roll usually allows for about 36 exposures.

Because the LomoApparat Alexanderplatz does not have a motorized film advance, the film must be manually advanced to the next frame by the photographer after each shot using a film advance lever or wheel, which is part of the analogue shooting experience.
