The Boots Beirette B.L. is a 35mm camera. It was bought in Great Britain by the Boots chain of drugstores under their own brand. A VEB in the GDR was responsible for the production. In East Germany it was called “Beirette VSN”. The housing is partly made of (leathered) metal and plastic and painted black.
The miniature camera comes with a fixed lens. The focal length is 45 mm and the largest aperture of the lens is f/2.8. The name of the manufacturer for the lens is “E. Ludwig Meritar 1:2,8 / 45mm”. Focusing must be done manually. The closest focusing distance of the lens is 60 cm.
The correct exposure cannot be measured by the camera, because it has no light meter. The aperture and exposure time are set manually. Batteries are not required for taking pictures.
The 35mm camera comes with a bulb setting option. An external flash can be connected to the Hot Shoe. A tripod thread is available on the Boots Beirette B.L.
Films for the Boots Beirette B.L.
Boots Beirette B.L. needs some photo film to take pictures. More precisely 35mm films are needed. Films of this format are still easily available and are still being developed. Beautiful films for black and white or color pictures are the Kodak T-Max 100* and the Agfaphoto Vista 200*.
The color film is a negative film and is processed in the C-41 development process. C-41 films are developed by almost all photo laboratories.
The negatives of Boots Beirette B.L. have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. So at least 36 photos fit on a 36 frame 35mm film. The film in the camera has to be rewound manually, because there is no automatic film transport.
