Marix

Marix Film, founded in Osaka, Japan in 2021, is a company with a mission: the return of Japanese filmmaking. Driven by the passion of founder Junji Hida, a long-time camera enthusiast, Marix Film is committed to revitalizing a once-thriving industry.

Hida, who has been fascinated by photography since his youth, recalled in 2021 his own experiences with film cameras and traveling in the 1980s. While rediscovering his beloved cameras, he discovered that the market for film had shrunk significantly due to declining demand for analog photos.

“Made in Japan” cameras and films were once known worldwide. Today, Japanese film producers are struggling to adequately supply the market. As a passionate amateur photographer, Hida decided to counteract this development and founded Marix Film.

The company’s goal is to establish a national film brand in Japan and to provide the market with stable, high-quality films at reasonable prices. Marix Film sees itself as part of a movement that wants to make analog photography more attractive again.

Although Marix Film is still a young company, it has already gained a loyal following. Photographers appreciate the high quality of the films and the company’s philosophy. Marix Film represents the passion for analogue photography and the desire to preserve this art form for future generations.

Marix does not currently produce any films itself. Material from various international manufacturers is offered under the brand name. There are black and white and color films for medium format and 35mm cameras. Some of these are classic films for photography, but also film material that was actually produced for the production of cinema films.
