IOR

IOR is the abbreviation of Intrepriderea Optica Romana S.A. The company was founded in the Romanian capital Bucharest in the 1930s. In the beginning, it specialized in the production of optical equipment for the military. In the 1950s, during the socialist period in Romania, Intrepriderea Optica Romana produced the first 35mm camera. The camera manufacturer relied on glass material from Jena in eastern Germany. Later, models were built under license from the German company King, among others. Today, IOR is still state-owned. However, cameras are no longer built, but military equipment, medical devices and eyeglass lenses.
