Russia

Russia has a long history of film camera manufacturing, particularly during the Soviet era, and over the years has spawned several well-known companies and factories that have manufactured a wide range of cameras. The most famous film camera manufacturers and factories in Russia include Zorki, KMZ and LOMO.

KMZ, or Krasnogorsky Mekhanichesky Zavod, was a Soviet-era camera factory founded in 1942 and based in the town of Krasnogorsk near Moscow. The company manufactured a wide range of cameras, which included rangefinders, SLRs, and medium format cameras.

Zorki was one of the Soviet brands of KMZ. The KMZ company produced a series of popular rangefinder cameras based on the Leica design, which were also known in the West for their affordability. Zorki cameras were widely used by both professional and amateur photographers in the Soviet Union, and were also exported to other countries.

LOMO, or Leningradskoye Optiko-Mechanicheskoye Obyedinenie, was a St. Petersburg-based camera factory founded in the 1920s. The company manufactured a wide range of cameras, which included rangefinders, SLRs, and medium format cameras.
