The Nara 19 500T is a color negative film based on the Kodak VISION3 500T. Kodak originally produced this film material for cinema film production and sold it in large spools. These are divided into smaller sections and rewound into 35mm cartridges to make them usable for conventional photo cameras.

It is sold by the photo retailer 8storeytree from Singapore. The film is delivered in a film box that is designed like a milk carton.

Properties of the color film

A special feature of the VISION3 500T is its adaptation to artificial light (tungsten). Unlike digital cameras, there is no way to flexibly adjust the white balance on analog devices.

In order to achieve correct color results under artificial light, a specially adjusted film material such as the Nara 19 500T is required. This film can also be used in daylight, but color shifts often lead to undesirable results.

The sensitivity of the film material is specified as ISO 500.

Development of the Nara 19 500T

The ECN-2 process is required to develop the Nara 19 500T. This is due, among other things, to the special Remjet coating that is applied to the film to protect it in cinema cameras.

This layer must be removed during development. When processed in the conventional C-41 process, residues of the coating could render the chemicals unusable.

Some laboratories offer ECN-2 development, which is why it is advisable to check the availability of this service in advance. Alternatively, there are variants of the VISION3 500T in which the Remjet coating has already been removed.

Compatibility and cameras

The Nara 19 500T is suitable for use in 35mm cameras. Models from manufacturers such as Minolta, Olympus or Nikon are just as suitable for this as high-quality cameras from Leica or Konica. The decisive factor is that the camera is designed for the 35mm format.

A manual setting of the film sensitivity or a manual exposure mode is advantageous in order to achieve the best results. Around 36 shots can be taken per roll of film, although the exact number depends on the camera in question.
