The Olympus Shoot & Go R impresses with its puristic simplicity. This 35mm fixed focus camera model was launched by Olympus in 1996 and produced in China.

At the heart of the camera is a fixed lens with a focal length of 34mm and three elements in three groups. There is no need to focus as the focus is constantly set from 1.2m to infinity. Nevertheless, the manual recommends an optimal focusing distance of 1.2 to 3 meters.

Exposure is controlled by a simple switch that is set for either ISO 100/200 or ISO 400, with the shutter speed remaining constant at 1/100 second. The same switch opens the aperture wider and turns on the built-in flash. One feature it lacks is the low-light warning common to other Olympus models.

A simple flash-ready light next to the equally simple viewfinder shows when the flash is ready for use. The camera has a red-eye reduction system.

The Olympus Shoot & Go R is powered by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). However, these are only required for the flash. All other functions are mechanical, including manual film advance operated via a thumbwheel.

Film recommendations for the Olympus Shoot & Go R

35mm films are ideal for the Olympus Shoot & Go R. Despite the digital dominance in photography today, these films are still accessible.

For those who prefer vivid colors, the Kodak Gold 200* is an excellent choice, especially for settings at ISO 200. For monochrome photography, the Kodak TRI- X 400 recommended, despite its deviation from the ISO 200 standard.

These films are not only known for their robustness, but also for their quality, as numerous test reports confirm. Other notable film producers are Adox, Rollei and Foma.

While the C-41 process is the standard process for developing color film, developing black and white film requires specialized developers such as Kodak XTOL.
