LomoGraflok: Instax Wide Instant Back for Large Format Cameras

Instant photography still enjoys great popularity. Unfortunately, over the years, various formats or the production of the films were discontinued. One film that is sorely missed is the 4×5 separation film. This format was not only used in instant cameras, but was also used by many users with large format cameras with a matching instant back.

The reason for the development of instant backs for “normal” film cameras was not so much to shoot on instant film. The instant images used to be more a preview of the result. Especially in professional photography, for example with models and special set-ups, the exposure and focus had to be right. Therefore, the camera was adjusted, the instant picture back was closed and the pictures were taken on instant film. The result was in your hand a few minutes later and you could then take your pictures on the right film.

Today, most photographers probably also want to take pictures on instant film, experiment with it and then keep the result.

Unfortunately, Fujifilm no longer produces film for these backs for large format cameras. Lomography has now seen this gap in the market and offers a new instant back for the Graflok system.

The LomoGraflok back is designed for Fujifilm Instax Wide films. These films are still freshly produced and are quite inexpensive. There is even a black and white film for the film format.

The back can be used with all Graflok compatible cameras, covering a large part of the 4×5 cameras. You are free to decide what lenses, bellows, etc. are located in front of the back. For example, a very small depth of field can be captured on the Instax Wide image.

There are 10 images in one film cassette. Depending on the supplier, you pay around 8-10 euros for this number. The sensitivity is ISO 800 and the exposure range is 9.9 to 6.2 cm. No films are supplied.

The film ejection of the back is motorized. Four standard AA batteries are needed for the required power. A focusing mask with built-in frame is included in the delivery. With a size of 18.1 x 12 x 5 cm the LomoGraflok weighs 500 grams. The price is 149 Euro.
