The Carena discovery 35 is a simple snapshot camera from the 90's presented by Photo Porst. It is also known under the name "Carena D35".
Equipped with a fixed 28mm lens, it offers a maximum aperture of f/6.7 and no focus adjustment. Another highlight is its integrated exposure meter and automatic exposure, which means that the photographer does not have to choose aperture and exposure time. A built-in flash is available for low-light situations.
Film selection for the Carena discovery 35
The Carena discovery 35 uses cartridges with 35mm film, for which a wide selection of color and black and white film is available. The Kodak T-Max 400* is excellent for black and white images, while the Agfaphoto Vista 400* is recommended for color images. Both films are suitable for various recording scenarios and offer consistent results.
Color film development is based on the C-41 process, which is offered by most German laboratories and drugstore chains. The black and white film requires a special development process, which can vary depending on the film. For maximum control, it's best to do the processing at home, as the chemicals needed are readily available and, with regular use, it's often more cost-effective than going to a photo lab.
Another feature of the Carena discovery 35 is the automatic film transport, which advances the film after each exposure.
With dimensions of 11 x 6 x 3 cm and a weight of 135 grams, it is compact and light.
Although the Carena discovery 35 is no longer in production, the price of used models varies depending on condition and functionality. You can't get a very high price. On the other hand, it is a very cheap entry-level option for analog photography.
