Godox C100: Digital Camera Without Display for Analog Purists

The manufacturer Godox, known primarily for studio flashes and professional lighting systems, is expanding its range with an unusual product. With the Godox C100, the company presents a compact camera that combines elements of digital technology with the charm of classic viewfinder cameras. The device is aimed at people looking for a simple way to capture everyday life without being distracted by complex menus.

A striking feature of the camera is the body with a transparent optical viewfinder. Instead of a classic screen on the back, you look directly through the transparent material of the camera at the subject. Integrated into this viewfinder is a transparent display that shows important shooting data. This includes the selected aspect ratio, a grid for composition, battery status, and basic exposure parameters. This way, the view of the surroundings remains unobstructed while the necessary information is readable in the field of view.

For lovers of analog photography, the Godox C100 offers a practical additional function. The device has a built-in light meter that measures the brightness in the central area of the subject. This center-weighted metering covers about a quarter of the image field. This allows the handy device to also be used as an external light meter for old mechanical cameras. The measured values for aperture, ISO, and shutter speed are displayed directly in the transparent viewfinder.

Since the camera does without a display for immediate image review, photographing reminds of working with analog film. The images can only be viewed after transfer to another device. A microSD card is used for storage, which can support a capacity of up to 128 gigabytes. Connection to a smartphone or computer is via a USB-C cable, enabling straightforward image transfer.

Technically, the camera offers basic functions for photo and video. Users can choose between four different aspect ratios, including the classic 4:3 format, the documentary 3:2 format, the square 1:1 format, and the wider 16:9 format. Weighing about 65 grams and with compact dimensions, the device fits in almost any pocket. It is thus suitable as a constant companion for spontaneous snapshots or as a practical tool for the analog camera bag.
