Fujifilm FP-3000B Discontinued: One Less Instant Film

Fujifilm is reportedly ending production of the Fujifilm FP-3000B by the end of the year. It is the last black-and-white film for the 3x4 (85 x 108 mm) format. This instant film can be used in the so-called Polaroid 100 series, among others.

The news surfaced this week on "The Phoblographer" and has since been confirmed by Fujifilm USA. This decision is not really surprising; Fuji is probably banking more on the Instax series.

One should not hope that The Impossible Project will produce a comparable film. The European instant film producers, with their factory in Enschede, Netherlands, consistently rule this out.

A petition has already been started against the discontinuation of the Fujifilm FP-3000B. Whether it can change anything is questionable. Nevertheless, one should support it, it certainly can't hurt.

If you want to continue shooting with instant film, you probably have no choice but to stock up on a sufficient supply of FP-3000B (Amazon). The last shipment is expected to be delivered to dealers in spring 2014. Unfortunately, there is no direct alternative to the Fujifilm FP-3000B.

Slowly but surely, Fujifilm's film lineup is getting smaller, unfortunately.
