Cinestill 800Tungsten Xpro C-41: New high-speed color film

Cinestill introduces a new high-speed tungsten film

The film is not entirely new, but it is now available in Germany at Fotoimpex. It contains a Kodak cine film, specifically the Kodak Vision3 500T 5219. This is a color negative film for shooting under artificial light at 3200K, used for motion picture filming. It allows shooting under artificial light, e.g., indoors, without flash while still getting beautiful colors.

The sensitivity is rated at ISO 800, but can be exposed in a range of ISO 200-2000. Pushed, even ISO 3200 is possible.

Now one wonders why this film hasn't been available for photographers for a long time. It is only available in bulk rolls, in not small quantities, and Kodak cine films are not easy to obtain. An even more important point is that the films have a special coating that does not come off during normal C-41 development, so they must be developed in the special ECN-2 process.

This is where CinestillFilm comes in; the American company removes the coating and packs the film into 35mm cartridges. Now it can be developed in the normal C-41 color negative process. This makes simple, and above all cheaper, development at an external photo lab possible.

For one roll of Cinestill 800 Tungsten Xpro C-41 you pay just under 9 euros at Fotoimpex. It's not a bargain, but any new film is better than none, and it's great to see that the film market is still moving. The 800Tungsten is said to be just the beginning; more films are planned according to the manufacturer. The film was packaged by Adox in Germany.
