SG-Image is a Chinese lens manufacturer specializing in the development and production of optical systems for mirrorless system cameras. Based in the Pearl River Delta, a region with a highly developed production and supply chain infrastructure, the company has established itself in the budget-friendly lens segment. The company philosophy is focused on providing affordable optical tools for photographers.
Development from manual focus to autofocus
In the early phase, SG-Image attracted attention by offering purely manual prime lenses in the low-price segment. These early models include ultra-compact pancake lenses like the MF 18mm f/6.3 for APS-C sensors, as well as fast lenses like the MF 35mm f/0.95 for APS-C cameras. These lenses feature a simple optical design, primarily focused on portability and low entry cost.
More recently, the company has gradually expanded its portfolio with modern autofocus (AF) lenses. These lenses use stepper motors (STM) to enable quiet automatic focusing. An example is the AF 55mm f/1.8 STM, developed for the Fujifilm X mount. It features electronic contacts for Exif data transmission as well as a USB interface on the mount for firmware updates.
Another model is the AF 25mm f/1.8, offered as a flat pancake lens for both the APS-C format and the Micro Four Thirds system (MFT). Additionally, the lineup includes the full-frame lens AF 35mm f/2.2 for mirrorless cameras with E, Z, and L mounts.
