The Ilford Pan F Plus is a black and white film. The sensitivity of the film is given as ISO 50. It is produced by Harman Technology Limited in Great Britain.

The low film speed makes it well suited for shooting in high light, for example on the beach, and working with an open aperture. The low sensitivity results in, among other things, a very fine grain and a high level of detail.

The Ilford Pan F Plus is developed in a corresponding black and white developer and not in the C-41 process (color negative films). Of course, as a developer you don't have to use an Ilford product. Ilford recommends the ILFOTEC DD-X or ID-11 (stock) as a black and white developer.

The Ilford Pan F Plus is for 35mm and medium format cameras. Besides him there is the FP4 Plus and the HP5 Plus.

Development

As far as the development process is concerned, it is indeed advisable to use a special black and white developer rather than the C-41 process common to color negative films. This ensures that the film performs at its optimal level and the subtleties of each image are accurately reproduced. Ilford offers the ILFOTEC DD-X or the ID-11 (stock) developer, which are specially formulated to achieve the best results with this film. Of course, photographers are free to explore other brands as there are many high-quality developers on the market that could produce compatible results.

For beginners and professionals alike, it's a good idea to take notes as you experiment with different developers to note which combinations produce the desired results. This approach not only promotes a deeper understanding of the photographic process, but also allows the art of photography to be further refined and customized. This makes the creative process an even more fulfilling experience, where technology and vision work together harmoniously to create extraordinary works.
