The Ilford Pan 400 is a black and white film. Harman Technology in Great Britain is responsible for its production. Besides the 400 film, there is also an ISO 100 version with the Ilford Pan 100.

The film is largely sold to photographers in Asia. However, you can also get it in parts of Europe. It is offered as a cheaper alternative to Ilford's range of professional black and white films. Compared to these films, it naturally delivers slightly lower quality.

Ilford Pan 400 is a classic film stock for black and white photography. It is panchromatically sensitized. The nominal speed is given as ISO 400. This makes it suitable for ordinary everyday photography. Depending on the camera, it can also be used to take good pictures indoors

Developing the film

There is no standardized developing process as with the C-41 film. The Pan 400 can be developed in a variety of black-and-white developers. Black and white development can be done at home with the proper equipment and chemistry. However, it is also possible to take the film to a developing lab. After development, the negatives can be digitized, for example with a flatbed scanner.

Formats

The Pan 400 is sold for 35mm cameras only. 36 images usually fit on a roll of film. The film cartridge of the 35mm film is equipped with a DX code. This allows a compact camera, for example, to read the sensitivity of the film material. There is no variant for medium format cameras.

In principle, the film can be exposed in all cameras for the 35 mm format.
