The FilmNeverDie UMI 800, a color negative film for 35mm cameras, is the offspring of the IRO series from the Australian company FilmNeverDie. The IRO series is known for its exceptional color reproduction and the UMI 800 continues this tradition by being specifically optimized for shooting at night and in low light conditions. However, it was not manufactured by the Melbourne brand itself.

The name "UMI" comes from Japanese and means "sea", reflecting the cool tones of the film. The packaging was designed according to this motto by the designer Edmund Li from Malaysia.

Info and areas of application

The UMI 800 is a versatile film that is particularly suitable for shooting in low light. Its high sensitivity of ISO 800 allows you to take photos without a flash even in dark environments. The film delivers a good balance between grain and sharpness. Particularly noteworthy are the cool colors that give the UMI 800 its unique character.

Formats and cameras

The FilmNeverDie UMI 800 is available in 35mm format and offers 36 exposures per roll. It can be used in all cameras designed for the 35mm format. Thanks to its DX coding, the camera automatically detects the film sensitivity and sets the exposure accordingly.

Development and digitalization

The UMI 800 is developed using the C-41 process, the most common process for color negative film. Developing can be done in most photo labs. After development, the negatives can either be exposed on photo paper in the traditional way or digitized using a scanner.

Storage of film material

As with all films, it is important to store the UMI 800 in a cool and dry place. Ideally, it should be stored in the refrigerator to extend its shelf life. Before use, the film should be slowly brought to room temperature to avoid condensation.
