Zenit 122k

The Zenit 122k is an SLR camera. It was produced by KMZ from 1994 to 1997. In terms of functionality, the black camera is identical to the Zenit 122, but it is designed for the Pentax K bayonet and not M42 lenses.

The lenses of the Zenit 122k can be changed. Lenses for the Pentax K bayonet can be used. The camera is often found with the MC-Zenitar-K2 50mm f/2 or the MC Helios-44-k 58mm f/2. The lens is focused by hand. The model does not have an autofocus function.

The Zenit 122k has a built-in light meter. The SLR determines the exposure by metering through the lens (TTL). The exposure time can be set manually. The aperture is also freely selectable.

The camera has a Bulb mode. In Bulb setting, the remains open as long as the photographer keeps the shutter button pressed.

An external flash can be connected to the hot shoe.

Films for the Zenit 122k

The Zenit 122k is designed for 35mm film. 35mm film is still made and will develop without problems at most photo labs. A 35mm film for color photography is the Kodak Portra 400*. A possible black and white film is the Kodak TRI-X 400*. Both photographic films produce beautiful images with the SLR camera.

The color film is a color negative film and is developed using the C-41 process. This development process is available at almost every photo lab. The situation is different with black-and-white film. This must be processed in a B/W developer, this process is very individual and is not offered by all photo labs. Best results are achieved by developing the film yourself with the appropriate chemistry. This way you have full control over the images.

The Zenit 122k negatives have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. At this size, at least 36 photos usually fit on one film (135-36). The film in the camera must be rewound manually, as there is no automatic film transport.
