Praktica BCA - front

Praktica BCA

The Praktica BCA is a single lens reflex camera. It was manufactured between 1986 and 1989 by Pentacon. Approximately 230,000 units of this model were built. She is the successor of the Praktica B 100.

The lenses of the Praktica BCA can be exchanged. A Praktica-Bajonett was installed for this purpose. This is not quite so common. M42 lenses can be used with an adapter. The camera does not have autofocus.

The Praktica BCA has a built-in light meter. It is designed for an ISO range from 12 to 3200. The sensitivity is adjusted with a wheel on the top of the camera. The correct exposure is measured through the lens of the SLR camera.

The aperture can be set by the photographer himself on the lens and the exposure time is automatically set by the camera according to the exposure measurement. With the exposure time you only have the choice between automatic and 1/60 second, this can also be used without battery.

Praktica BCA has a bulb mode, e. g. for long exposures. The shutter is open for a variable time.
An external flash can be connected via hot shoe.

Films for the Praktica BCA

The Praktica BCA is an analogue camera and needs to be equipped with 35mm film. For this film format, there is still a good selection of material for color and black and white images. For black-and-white shots, you can go to with the Kodak TRI-X 400*. For color images, the Agfaphoto Vista 400* is a possibility. The color film is processed in the C-41 development process. This development process is carried out by all photo laboratories offering the development of 35mm films.

The exposure area of the Praktica BCA is 24 mm x 36 mm big. With a normal 35mm film (135-36) usually 36 photos are possible at this size.

The Praktica BCA has a built-in self-timer and an option to connect a cable release. There is also a thread for a tripod. The power supply for the 35mm camera is provided by four LR44 batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

The 35 mm camera is only available in used condition. The prices for the camera vary depending on the condition.
