The Polaroid 636 Autofocus is an instant camera. It is identical in functionality and design to the Polaroid One Step Autofocus, except for the name imprint.

The Polaroid 636 Autofocus is a user-friendly instant camera that is packed with features. The built-in flash makes it possible to take excellent pictures even in low light conditions.

It is powered by a battery in the film pack, so there is no need to purchase additional batteries. Another feature of this camera is the 2-zone autofocus, which allows precise focusing at different distances. In addition, the camera has a rounded plastic body in black color.

The camera comes with a simple viewfinder. On the back is the frame counter, which shows the remaining shots with the film pack inserted. Also seen on the back is the flash readiness light. The light jumps to green when the camera is ready for use. There is no tripod socket on this instant camera.

Polaroid 600 instant film goes into the Polaroid 636 Autofocus. Production of these was discontinued by Polaroid years ago. Replacements are available, such as the Polaroid Color Film for 600* or the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*, from The Impossible Project. Impossible manufactures, in an old Polaroid factory in the Netherlands, the instant films for the old cameras.

Batteries

What kind of batteries are needed for the Polaroid instant camera? The camera uses a battery contained in the film cassette as a power source. This disposable battery provides the power needed for the camera technology and flash. When the film is replaced, the battery is also replaced, so no additional battery is needed. It is important not to dispose of the film cassette in household waste because of the battery it contains. Instead, the plastic cassette or just the battery should be returned to a suitable local drop-off location.
