The Nikonos II is an underwater camera. It was produced from 1968 to 1975.
The lenses of the camera are interchangeable. It comes with the Nikonos bayonet. The W-Nikkor 35mm f/2.5 is often found on the underwater camera. The model does not have autofocus. It is manually focused. The viewfinder covers a range of 35mm.
The Nikonos II does not have a built-in light meter. Depending on the photographer's preference, the aperture and exposure time can be selected. The 35 mm camera has a Bulb mode. In this mode, the shutter is opened as long as the shutter release button is pressed. The use of a flash is possible via the waterproof PC flash socket. Possible films for the Nikonos II are the Kodak Ultramax 400* and the Ilford HP5*. The color film is designed to be developed in the C-41 process. C-41 film can be developed by most photo labs.
The area of the Nikonos II negatives have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. At this size, at least 36 photos usually fit on one film (135-36). The photographer must advance the film manually.
In addition to other lenses, accessories included an underwater flash, a lens hood and a rack for close-ups. The housing of the Nikonos is made of cast aluminum. Dives up to 50 meters are possible with the camera.
