The Nikon AF400 is a simple 35mm camera. It was introduced in the mid 90s and was aimed at beginners. The model was also sold under the name Nikon One Touch 300.

The camera comes with a fixed focal length. The focal length of the lens is 31 mm. The maximum aperture is f/4. You don't have to focus manually with this 35mm camera. The Nikon AF400 comes with an autofocus. The closest focusing distance is 45 cm in macro mode.

A special feature, at least that's how it was marketed back then, is the panorama mode. When this function is activated, two bars are pushed into the image, giving a panorama look. But it's nothing more than a look, because the function doesn't capture more image content on the film. In principle this step can also be done later in the post-processing. It does not matter whether the processing is digital or analog. A similar effect can easily be created in both types.

The camera has a built-in light meter. The exposure settings are determined automatically by it. Settings such as aperture and shutter speed cannot be selected by the user. The built-in flash provides enough light. The camera requires two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

Nikon AF400 QD

Under this designation a functionally identical model was offered. The Quartz Date model offers the additional possibility of the exposure of the date of recording in the photo. A pedant was also available for the One Touch 300.

Films for the Nikon AF400

The Nikon AF400 is designed for 35mm film. 35mm films are still produced today and are quite easy to get. One possibility for b/w pictures is the Ilford Delta 100*. A possible film for color images is the Agfaphoto Vista 400*.

The colour film is processed in the C-41 development process. This development process is offered by most laboratories. The black and white film must be processed in a true black and white developer. This type of development is also offered by most laboratories. However, the development costs are usually somewhat higher.
